The Grammarians’ 90th Anniversary Charity Gala Ball

Old Grammarians Ball

2017 Annual Gala Ball

This year we returned to the Glynhill Hotel on March 3rd 2017 for our Annual Ceilidh Ball.

Our Guests this year included the recently appointed Head Teacher, Mrs. Janice Levens, who took her place at the top table and brought greetings from the School to the Old Grammarians’ Club. We also welcomed Head Girl Amy Clyne, Head Boy Allan McNicol, and fellow Sixth Year Students Fiona Gilmour and Robbie Ross.

President Faye Carruthers welcomed all the guests, and Mrs.Levens said the School Prayer as Grace. We then enjoyed a delicious three-course meal. At coffee time former President Mel Haggarty presented Mrs. Nan Atherton with a framed certificate to celebrate her becoming an Honorary Life Vice-President to which Nan graciously replied.

After the meal, we enjoyed a lively Ceilidh led by the excellent Charlie Kirkpatrick Band which included Mr. Drew Gifford, a member of the School teaching staff. The band was very effective in encouraging large numbers onto the dance floor and really seemed to enjoy the evening themselves!

There was a good cross-section of ages from Sixth Year to the more‘mature’! We were delighted to welcome a group from the ‘Class of 1995’ coming towards their 40th.birthdays.

During the Band break, we had our usual Raffle with many attractive prizes and our traditional coin-rolling for liquid
gifts! More hectic dancing culminated in “Strip the Willow” followed by Auld Lang Syne.
